Please, be careful when reviewing. If you are not able to improve your performance, I'll write a formal complaint to gengo.
We have a formal process for giving feedback to Senior Translators regarding job and test reviews—all you need to do is complete our review feedback form: http://bit.ly/17qwxUf. We'll then forward your comments to the ST who performed the review.
I'm going to delete your first two comments above (because they contain significant chunks of the source text), but you are more than welcome to add them to the review feedback form. The final decision is up to the ST, but this gives you a chance to voice disagreement and sometimes results in reconsideration.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind you about our forum guidelines, specifically:
Please let me know if anything here is unclear and feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd prefer to discuss this in private.
I have already completed that form. Nevertheless, the senior reviewer have commited serious mistakes which I have shown in my previous comments. For example, it os correct to say "página web" in Spanish. It is correct the expression "proveedores de servicios sanitarios" and it is correct "El(la)", instead of "El/la". These are facts, not opinions and they shouldn't be considered offensive by anyone. All of us commit mistakes, but the important thing is to rectify.
Could you tell me who is going to review that form. Will it be another senior reviewer or the same one? I think a third opinion would me more suitable in case of these kind of disputes.
@masanpra, I already replied to you via email, but for the sake of everyone else here, we send feedback to the original reviewer based on our belief that if they genuinely made a mistake, they will acknowledge it and make any necessary revisions. Thanks.
Thank you for writing in the forums!
Our pre-tests are designed so our translators pay special attention to detail, so I suggest you take a very close look to spelling and punctuation if you're not finding any obvious errors in the options. All the wrong answers contain either spelling errors, obvious mistranslations or omissions.
Please note that all our translators have to pass the same pre-tests, and many have made it. However, if you do find what you believe is a mistake, please make sure to take a screenshot of the question and send it to us.
Good luck in your next try! :)
Thanks, but NO THANKS, I don't plan on waiting 6 months to take a test with a translation that I would do much better myself if it were not a multiple choice question. Check your automated system, because your selective screening process is being done wrong.
P.S: I'm not the only one having that problem; check how many alike comments online.
I'm sorry to hear that :(
However, we always welcome feedback to improve our system, so if you have any specific examples of errors in our pre-test questions, please feel free to send them in and we'll be happy to correct them!
I don't mean to be rude or polemic or...(you choose the word you like), but after reading this I took the EN-SP (Latin American) pre-test out of curiosity and I got 4 right answers out of 5. I am sure I would have failed the test if I had had to translate from scratch and not just pick an answer from the multiple choice. My Spanish is quite rusty right now. I am a native Italian and I hold a language degree (English major, two years of Spanish studies with a Chilean teacher, a little over four months spent in Chile many years ago). I have been translating for over 20 years from EN to IT and I am at Pro level for that combination here at Gengo.
Why all this blah blah blah you ask? I just wanted to tell all the people who try the tests to pay really close attention to the source language as well as the target language, looking for nuances of meaning as well. Sometimes we rely on our knowledge of our native language and rush through tests without thinking too much.
Good luck everybody, languages are fascinating and a daily source of discoveries. Keep trying!
@All - This is just a quick note to let you know that verocor.translations' first post on this thread has been removed not because of inappropriate content but because she had attached an imaged that included her full name and full citizen ID number. Our software does not allow to remove only attached images so I have had to take down the post in order to protect her private information.
Please keep in mind that Gengo's Forums are not private and everything you post immediately becomes accessible to the whole world - if you ever need to send us documents that include private and / or personal information, don't hesitate to contact us directly by email! (email@example.com)
Hi Antonio and Lara
I have recently done the three attempts of Eng-Spanish test, the three of them failed.
On the other hand I performed the English-Italian test and passed with 5/5.
I have written several tickets and emails, and all I get as answer is that it's been forwarded to one of your departments.
It actually makes no sense that I fail the three tests in my NATIVE language, and pass with no problems a test into a language which is not my native language, neither I have an advance level at that.
I sent by email several screen captures of my answers and the screens with the official RAE and other links to support and evidence my answers were actually right. But no satisfactory answer yet....and I am supposed to wait 6 months??
Please give me some answer or solutions.
I am sorry to hear about you failing the EN>ES (Spain) test and also that you have not obtained a satisfactory answer regarding your concerns yet.
I have forwarded your post to our interim Community Manager to see if she has any update regarding your case. Meanwhile, I can assure you that we are reading you here and there is no need to repost the same comment onto all other threads.
Thank you for your patience!
ETA: I have gone ahead and deleted your posts on the other 4 threads since they were the same as this one. Rest assured I will receive a notification in the event that you reply on this thread and will be sure to check your message! :)
