I have passed the pre-test for the English to Portuguese (Brazil) pair some weeks ago, and I was going to take the standard test for the mentioned pair which became available soon after. One day, on logging in and going to the test section, I saw that the pair was missing. Until now, it hasn't appeared, and I am excited to take it. The articles say that this is due to high volume, and so the pair must be temporarily shut down. When it will be opened again, will the said language pair be reset and I have to repeat the pre-test?

Same here. Gengo was so good when I first entered last month. I feel really sad they don't have any jobs right now.
cielbleu*, unfortunately tests for EN>PT-BR have been turned off (we turned it on briefly to boost numbers for a large project, which has since finished). If another big project comes along, you'll have another chance to test, but unfortunately you'll have to start from the beginning. Thanks for your interest in working with us and hopefully we'll get a chance to collaborate soon!

Unfortunately I can't provide you with an estimate on when the tests will be on again, as we turn them on and off depending on the work volume and the number of active translators for each language pair, which is something that depends greatly on customer's orders and it can vary. However, you can register with us to receive a notification as soon as the tests for your language pair are turned on, so you won't miss the chance to take them :) If you are interested, you can sign up for this here.
