I recently got accepted, and the site informed me that I must send in a W-8BEN form filled, signed and sent in. I looked up about paying taxes in my country, and it is required to pay certain taxes an a self-employed person, and it is mandatory to have a self-employment certificate.

The problem is, in Hungary I must have a certificate in translation to get such a certificate for self-employment. So does this mean that I cannot legally get paid for my translation work here, because I don't have a certificate?

    Hi vogladam,

First of all, congrats on joining the team! :)

The W-8BEN form is meant to fulfill Gengo's requirements under U.S. law and does not have any direct relationship with laws in your country.
Because of this, you will most likely need to contact your local city hall or equivalent to clarify what your situation as a taxpayer would be, but I also recommend writing an email directly to support@gengo.com and explaining your case to see if there is anything that we can do to help you :)

    Good luck!
