Hello,
I have been reviewing the method used by senior translators to review our work and it was listed that they use a proprietary software called GoCheck to score us.
Is this software available for translators to download?
If so, please provide us a link.
If not, I think it would be a very good idea to allow translators access to it, or some form of it.
It would allow us to check our work against Gengo standards before sending it off to clients.
This would allow both clients to receive better jobs and for translators to receive better scores.
It seems like a win-win to me.
Thank you,
Jeff

Hi Jeff!
Thanks for posting this :)
GoCheck does not check for errors in a particular translation. Instead, the senior translators are the ones who mark errors and assess their severity (major or minor,) and then what the software does is calculate the score based on word count, and number of errors along with their severity. To put it simply, the software merely calculates the score based on the STs review, and therefore it would not be of much help in assisting translators to check their work.
Hope this helps,
Lara
"To put it simply, the software merely calculates the score based on the STs review" the software does a lot more than that. I think GoCheck is the single worst thing about Gengo. The review process should be completely humanized, my ratings have been very inconsistent, and that is if they even bother to rate me at all.
@hwemudua57 - as @Alexander has kindly explained to you in another thread (https://support.gengo.com/entries/69757634), in the review process, ours STs (human) check the job for errors and their severity, and then GoCheck calculates the score based on that. If you feel that any of the reviews that you have received are not appropriate, you are always welcome to fill out a Request for re-review.
Hope this helps,
Lara
Hello Lara,
When a job is submitted from a translator it can go into three categories. 1) Review 2) Pending second pass 3) Completed. Eventually, of course, all jobs end up as 'Completed' (Unless they are rejected)
My question is: Are Go-Checks selected randomly only among jobs under review and/or second pass, or also among completed jobs? Or perhaps only among completed jobs?
Gunnar
Hi Gunnar,
Usually, GoChecks are conducted on completed jobs only.
There may be other instances when a GoCheck is performed on a different type of job (i.e. a Held job pending final resolution after said job is rejected by a customer) but these are the exception, rather than the norm.
Thanks,
Lara
I came across this trying to find out about what the GoCheck does and what the LS does. The answer given by Lara above seems to contradicts gengo's own statement: "This tool allows us to identify and classify errors in a translation" (see: https://support.gengo.com/hc/en-us/articles/231438487-How-does-Gengo-assess-quality-). Note the 'identify' bit. Could someone from gengo please explain what is meant by that.
Hi Jutta - someone from Gengo here! ;)
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The "identify" bit was meant to express that our LSs can "mark/highlight (identify) and then classify the errors, but I can see how you would find it confusing. I'll pass your feedback to the team and maybe we can reword that part.
As I explained before, GoCheck is just the platform that our LSs use to review jobs and it calculates the score based on the errors marked. The errors are marked and classified by human Language Specialists.
Thanks,
Lara
