Many myGengo translators have said that they would love to have access to learning and skills development opportunities. Others have requested more opportunities for collaboration and group work.
Wouldn't it be great if we could combine the two? I'm thinking something along the lines of Skillshare or Duolingo...
What do you think about this? Are you interested? Do you have any ideas for how this might work?

I'm interested in teaching translators, but I don't know what could be the best way to do it online.
Fantastic!
These lessons don't necessarily need to happen online although it would probably be a good idea to have both online and offline options available so that everyone can benefit.
I'm also really interested in the idea of group projects with translators reviewing each other's work in a way that both improves the quality of the translation and helps translators develop their skills. But what kind of platform could we use to support this? Google docs?
Thanks,
Natalia
I think a wiki is better for that. Apart from collaborative editing, it offers history, version control and comments.

Thanks Antonio! I think you might be right! :)
Antonio, I was just thinking about your suggestion of a wiki again. I don't think the wiki software we use (PB Works) offers most if not all of the features you listed. Can you suggest some that do? Thanks!!
Natalia, I don't know a lot of wiki software, but Mediawiki has these features. Here you have a comparison of different software:

Awesome! Thanks Antonio!
Just an idea, but what about letting pro level translators share their jobs with standard level translators? The standard level translator could translate the piece and the pro translator would then proof read/edit it to ensure it's of a high enough quality. If the standard translator received their normal fee there would still enough left over for the pro translator to be paid more than the standard proof reading fee. I don't know if that would be enough to offset the lower quality of a standard translator's work, but it seems worth considering.
Thinking outside the box, supertranslator2000 - I love it!
I wonder - how would this be different to offering customers a Standard + Proofread package (which we don't currently do but are considering for the future)?
Thanks! :)
I remember when I was starting out I was really interested in finding a mentoring program - getting a more experienced translator to read through my translations and give me pointers. I would definitely have opted in for some kind of online tutor system, even at a slightly lower rate, just to get my skills up a bit in order to make the grade for better paid work, especially if it was always the same translator who proofed for me.
