Validating Jobs

When working on a Collection in the workbench, you can submit multiple jobs at once. You will see a confirmation at the top of the screen.

However, before you can submit, the jobs are validated. This happens automatically, and there are two types of warnings that may appear before submitting:

 

Cautions

These are related to spelling errors or missing glossary terms. They are for your information only and fixing is optional—please use your best judgment. 

Jobs with cautions have a yellow warning icon.

1. Spelling errors

Words with spelling errors are underlined with red dots. If there are words that have been incorrectly detected by the spell-checker, you can ignore them and click Submit.

2. Glossary terms

When a customer uses a glossary, there might be cases when the suggested terms don't apply. Words where you used the glossary term will be highlighted in green in both the source and target texts. Words where you didn't use the glossary will be highlighted in yellow in the source text.

Whenever possible, please use the glossary terms. If you are sure you should not use the glossary terms, you can go ahead and click Submit.

 

Errors

This includes errors in [[[triple brackets]]], {1}HTML tags{/1} or the character limit. These errors will need to be fixed to be able to submit your translation. You can't submit a job that has errors.

Jobs with errors will be highlighted in red, with a red warning icon.

1. Triple brackets

As we have explained in this article, you should not translate or modify any text within [[[triple brackets]]], or remove the brackets.

Triple brackets are highlighted in gray in source and target texts. When triple brackets are modified or missing, they will be highlighted in red in the source text, and you will need to fix them to be able to submit the translation.

Tips

To avoid typos, it's better to copy and paste the [[[text in triple brackets]]] from the source text into your translation.

There is an easier way to do this:

  • Click on the [[[text in triple brackets]]] in the source text, and it will be automatically copied to your translation at the same position where your cursor rests.

2. Deflated HTML tags

  • Deflated HTML tags are highlighted in gray in the source and target texts.
  • Modified or missing tags will be highlighted in red in the source text.
  • Remember that each opening tag {1} must have a closing tag {/1} (in most cases, but not always), and that there are no repeated tags.
  • Copy HTML tags to the target text by clicking on them in the source text.

3. Character limits

  • The character limit (if any) for each job is shown in the bottom right corner of the job window and will turn red if exceeded.
  • Any characters over the character limitation will be highlighted in red and you will not be able to submit the job if this happens.

4. Empty segments

As explained here, some Jobs are divided by segments (specially when customers use TM). Inside of the Job white square box, you can see that segments are separated by a horizontal line

In order to submit a Job, you will need to complete ALL the segments of that individual Job.

If you complete some segments of a Job but leave other segments empty, you will get the red warning icon and you will not be able to submit that Job until all segments are completed.
