I don't know, but it seems to me that the new way jobs are shown – with higher paying jobs and exclusive jobs being shown to translators with 8+ quality score – is not working the way it should. It shows – on the e-mails we receive – that this week there's been more than 1000 collections to pt-br. This is a lot, but I've seen waaaaaay less jobs this week. Seriously less. At first I just though it was just me but it doesn't make sense.

    Ever since this change I haven't seen any new incoming jobs in EN-DE! It's very disappointing, since I have only just started out using Gengo and my score is currently at 7.9 ! How can I improve my score to 8.0+ if there are no collections available?

    Hi Diego,

    What you mention doesn't necessarily have to do with the job distribution system that we're currently trialing in some language pairs. It's also very well possible that many of the jobs that the email mentions were part of a specific project limited to a certain amount of Preferred Translators, so if you're not a PT for that project, you wouldn't have seen those jobs even with our previous system. Please keep in mind that the email is not personalized to each translator, so it mentions just the amount of jobs that were available, regardless of whether the recipient had or not access to them.

    @ninagruending - Under the new system, certain jobs are made available only to translator with a score of 8 or higher. Because this doesn't apply to all jobs, you are still able to see and access jobs. If you have just started out with Gengo, I'd advice you to notice that because most of our comments order on their own, our incoming volume does fluctuate based on the time of day, day of week, and season. Additionally, if you haven't yet, I'd recommend you install an RSS Feed Reader so that you can receive prompt notifications when there's an available job for you :) (Further info on RSS feed readers here)

    I agree with Diego Cavalcanti and ninagruending. I translate in EN-ES and the decline in the number of jobs since this new distribution system implementation has been so noticeable, even if my quality score is above 8. Are you sure you have implemented it as you told us?

    It makes, Lara, altough I find unlikely (i've been with Gengo for about three years I think and I've never seem something like this)... But it might be the case, indeed.

    @gamesofhands - I will double check with our Engineering Team, just in case, but I'm pretty sure the system is working as intended. EN>ES is a pair I used to have translator qualifications for as well, and from my own experience as a translator, and now as Community Manager, it's always been highly competitive, and also subject to volume fluctuations throughout the day and week. Are you using an RSS Feed Reader? 

    @Diego Cavalcanti - The issue of the discrepancy between the weekly collections available email and the number of collections a translator has actually seen has come up and been explained here on the forums before, more than once, from what I can remember. As an example, please look for point 1 in my comment on January 20, 2017 on this thread (it's in Spanish, though.)

    I'm experiencing the same here. The volume of jobs decreased a lot after the change, and my quality score is way above 8.

    Hey all - thanks for your comments! Just to be on the safe side, I've double checked with our Engineering Team and they've confirmed the system is indeed working as intended. 

    @Diego - in your particular case they looked at the number of collections you mentioned, from the weekly email, and they've confirmed that these were indeed PT jobs that you hadn't been selected for.

    For everybody else, please note that any apparent decrease in jobs is more likely to be due to volume fluctuations depending on ongoing projects, and seasonality.

    What I can say is that since I was notified that I would increasingly see more available jobs on my dashboard, just the opposite has happened.

    @Ballmar - You will indeed see increasingly more available jobs on your dashboard (in relation to translators with a score of less than 8) as long as there are orders placed, of course. The placement of orders by the customers is really something that is out of our control :)

    Hello, Lara, I don’t quite understand your explanation, why should the decrease in jobs be related to other translators’ scores? If I am a PT and my score is above 8, I guess that, at least, I may have the same possibilities as the rest at the same level, don’t you think? Thank you

    @Ballmar - I think you misunderstood my comment. What I meant is that, if your score is above 8, that means you have access to all jobs, including higher paying ones as explained in the announcement. Whereas people with a score lower than 8 won't have access to those higher paying jobs. So, yes, you should be able to see *more* jobs (not less) than translators with a score lower than 8. However, again, this obviously depends on actual volume going in through the system, as we don't have control over how much volume and when our customers order.

    The apparent decrease in jobs that you are experiencing is not related to the way we distribute jobs in any way, shape, or form. 

    If you're referring to this:

    The "For everybody else" bit meant that this bit of my comment was aimed at everyone else commenting under the impression that the job distribution system is not working properly, regardless of score, as opposed to the previous part of my message, which was for Diego.

    Lara, as you confirm, I should be able to see more jobs, not less. Because, as I mentioned, since I received the notification, the number of jobs available have been in free fall, I guess something might be working in the opposite direction. Thank you.

    Ballmar, what Lara is saying is that the decrease in the volume of jobs that we are seeing is just a coincidence, the customers in our language pairs are ordering less jobs.

    @Ballmar — as I’ve confirmed, said decrease has nothing to do with the job distribution system. It’s due to incoming job fluctuations. To be more specific: if we receive less orders at any given point, our translators will naturally see less jobs during that period in time, regardless of their score. Thanks for your understanding! :)

    Some feedback on the issue from a new member: distribution appears to behave like first-time translators are PT for a bunch of post-editing jobs from one client, but when past the 8/10 point, the same translators are not PT for those jobs.

    A 100+ job list turned into an empty screen immediately after I got my first ("top scorer", above 8.5) score - that's not how fluctuation works.

    It may be (probably is) deliberate, but it also could be an issue with distribution; at the very least, there's a problem with how jobs are displayed.

    I am not sure about the issue you describe -- could you please email as to support@gengo.com with as many details as possible?

    Preferred Translators are chosen for different projects based on different criteria and there are different reasons that might explain why you didn't see any other jobs for that project (i.e. they were all picked up and submitted by other translators, the project ended, and/or for whatever reason the list of PT had to be modified) so this doesn't necessarily have to do with the job distribution system being faulty. 

    I'd still like us to have a look, however, so please do email us when you have a minute :)

    I'm really not sure which additional details you need, please advise. My two reviewed jobs (score of 10 for each) got me 9.7 total score (an overall perfectly acceptable low-transparency adjustment margin). All "+40% Bonus" collections were from the same client, and the first pages at least showed comfortable deadlines. I was expecting the bonuses to be how you get the new translators interested in checking out the low priority jobs, but instead of the bonuses, it seems to be the jobs themselves.

    @xavierblandinfr - Collections may be bonused when they need to be picked up urgently, but this doesn't necessarily mean that these jobs are available to new translators only. It's an incentive that can be applied to any job that needs immediate action. 

    I would just like to take a look into whether the project has actually ended, and this is why you don't see related collections anymore, or if there's any other reason, merely to make sure that the system is not faulty.

    Please email support@gengo.com including your registered email address with us, and let them know about the issue you mentioned above: that there were 100+ jobs available for a certain project (mention the client name in your email if you know or remember it) and that you don't see those jobs anymore despite having been a PT for them. This should help our agents look into whether the project has ended or is ongoing, and if ongoing, the reason why you don't see them anymore despite your high score.
