I have been using Feed Notifier since I began doing jobs here back in 2018, but today I realized that it haven't seen a job pop up for a long time...

Last notification was from 10 (!!!) days ago. I didn't realize earlier because, well, we all know the income of work is not what it used to be and all, plus I've been pretty busy, but this is a record... The notifier is always running, and I spend pretty much all day sitting at the computer. So I was left with the following dilemma: "How do I know if the issue is on my end or if jobs are simply not arriving at all?", so I went to my dashboard, and lo and behold, I stumbled onto an available job! Lucky coincidence that allowed me to confirm that either my notifier is not working properly or something's up with Gengo's feed.

Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone else here using Feed Notifier? Can you recommend me other notifier apps?

Thank you!

I think something is happening or maybe they are making some changes. I use feeder.co and it’s working in a strange way, I mean, job notifications aren’t appearing regularly. It’s true that lately the amount of jobs has decreased severally but there was a certain “regularity”. Beside this, when I look at the weekly statistics sent by Gengo I see many many many more jobs that the ones appearing to me.
I’ve contacted Feeder.co and everything is ok on its side.

I'm sorry, Rica. I know you tell us what the tech team tells you, but the one they gave you/us is not an explanation for the feed not detecting Gengo's link. It seems pretty obvious to me that the problems are real.

The "ghost jobs" are more frequent, as is the "$0.00" credit that comes and goes when refreshing the page, and the "172" message that I had never seen before. Maybe it's not related, but the payout due on the 25th was late, and some of us had to contact support to let them know (got it yesterday - Sunday - thanks).

Also, about 25 minutes ago the site logged me out (and that's happening more frequently as well, at least for me) and when it let me log in again there were 3 jobs (worth a few cents...).

A little messed up, don't you think? :-)

My RSS link is still faulty. It either doesn't load (504 Gateway Time-out), or takes ages to load (like over a minute).

As a result, my RSS feed reader is not returning any job although the dashboard does.

    Have contacted support accordingly.

Hello. Yes, it might happen sometimes. Same happened to me. Submit a request and don't forget to mention the transaction ID (found in "Account Dashboard".

    Hello, Gabriel.

This was happening for me days ago. I simply reinstalled Feed Notifier, set up everything and it worked again.

If you wanna check if it's working normally, simply keep an eye in the Feed Notifier icon in the notification bar. Wait for when it blinks a green arrow. Seconds after that, click in the "Job RSS" hyperlink from your Dashboard. If it prompts you a "Error 429: Too Many Requests" message, it's working (it means feed has been checked previously and this time when you checked it manually is the second time in 60 seconds).

In case you need the Feed Notifier installer, just head to this link and click the download icon in the right side of the screen, next to "Raw" and "Copy Raw file" buttons.

    Good luck

I use Feeder and I've been experiencing the same problems since this morning. To be exact, the last job notification was received 12 hours ago.

Support from Feeder.co has just contacted me and everything is ok on its side and suggested to contact Gengo support. Rica, rhanks for your response. I'll open a ticket and hope this issue be fixed asap 🤞

    @Bettina

Thank you so much for the information!
Since I have another laptop on which Feed Notifier still works well, I'll just wait to see if this problem could disappear somehow later.
If not, changing to another RSS feed reader would be the only way to go as you said.
So sad to know that Feed Notifier does not provide support anymore...

    Hi Bonnie,

you are welcome! What you can try is to contact the developer Michael Fogleman though, maybe he will do something. I found his contact information here: https://www.michaelfogleman.com/more/ (on the bottom of the page). Good luck!

    @ S.T

I contacted Gengo's support yesterday morning before it was even brought up here and the agent said that she was forwarding it to the technical team. Well, the usual template answer, y'know.

    @ Rica Tero

Now, what I'd really like to see answered are the following questions:

    1) When is Gengo finally going to properly maintain and/or upgrade their servers? They clearly need it given the ridiculous loading times for some collections even under normal circumstances.

    2) How is it even considered normal that some jobs appear only on the dashboard but not on the feed even under normal circumstances? It's been an issue for months if not years by now and no one seems interested in fixing this. Does Gengo ever intend to do anything about it?

    3) Could the number of words be brought back to the weekly email update about work volume? The number of collections is a completely useless stat on its own.

    Have a nice day everyone!

    Hi,

I agree with what is said here, I think the point is that we are not being notified. I also picked up a job recently (in the middle of the night), that I should have been notified about (total coincidence) and it had nothing to do with being in that "time bracket" of 60 seconds or whatever, as it had been posted a few minutes earlier. So yes, notifications are (still) not working for me. I also wrote to support a while ago.

I tested again this weekend and found the issue I described on a different forum last week is back: Gengo's server does not reply properly to most requests from feed readers. I contacted support about it, and this morning received their standard reply, including the words "We're continuously working to improve job distribution, and if you have other ideas, we're always looking forward to hearing them".

I tested again, and found the issue has not been solved, so I sent another email to Gengo support to stress this affects all translators who rely on a feed reader. Plus I replied to their invitation for suggestions how to improve job distribution.

I'm not receiving any notifications from Feeder either. The issue is clearly not fixed.

Received a reply from Support Team. Always same answer. Seems they don't feel like resolving this issue.

I agree with Yasemin. This kind of issue has occurred frequently since deploying the instant notification.

"The URL entered doesn t appear to be a valid RSS/Atom feed." is what appears to me. I also reinstalled the Feed Notifier. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

I deleted everything, uninstalled and installed again, still the same message appears: "The URL entered doesn t appear to be a valid RSS/Atom feed." Has anyone run into the same problem?

    @eve

Me too! I encountered exactly the same issue as you did.

I've contacted the Support team on this. And I think they will submit this issue to their technical team.

It seems that my RSS feed URL link doesn't work, but why it suddenly didn't work starting 11 days ago remains unknown to me. I suggest you contact Support team also, since there's nothing we can do by ourselves on this techinical issue.

@eve it does happen, I also had found this problem to happen in the past as well. I simply kept trying until it worked.

By the way, is anyone experiencing a 504 Gateway Time-out error when accessing the feed right now?

What @SagaGemini says is very concerning (17 minutes... 🤦🏻‍♂️).

Also, hats off and best wishes for this (still) being a full time job for you, it used to be that way for me too (with very profitable periods, even!), but that was long ago, it's not viable anymore...

    Hello

I am experiencing the same problem, my RSS link doesn't work, and I also get the message: "504 Gateway Time-out. The server didn't respond in time."

I thought the problem was with my feed reader, but then I realized many have been experiencing the same issue.

    Hi again, everyone!

I just got an update from the team that the issue is resolved. You can try again, and please let me know if it's working or not. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Thank you.

    Hi Bonnie,

the error message seems unrelated to Gengo's RSS. It seems to be a general problem with Feed Notifier. You can try adding any RSS feed and you will get the same message. It seems to be a re-occuring problem. See e.g. this old thread: https://github.com/fogleman/FeedNotifier/issues/96

As Feed Notifier does not provide support anymore, there seems to be nothing you can do. The problem might disappear somehow - I remember that it happened a while ago for a few days and then stopped. Other than that, you can only change your RSS feed reader to one that actually still provides support and works, like Feeder or Rumpelstitskin. That is what I did. I also used Feed Notifier until this happened.

    Best of luck,

    Bettina

The last notification I got was from 22 hours ago. Incidentally, a large-scale job that hadn't been picked up in almost half an hour (ie, a really long time given that most jobs are claimed within a second :) ...so maybe that's because the issue is back?
