I have been using Feed Notifier since I began doing jobs here back in 2018, but today I realized that it haven't seen a job pop up for a long time...

Last notification was from 10 (!!!) days ago. I didn't realize earlier because, well, we all know the income of work is not what it used to be and all, plus I've been pretty busy, but this is a record... The notifier is always running, and I spend pretty much all day sitting at the computer. So I was left with the following dilemma: "How do I know if the issue is on my end or if jobs are simply not arriving at all?", so I went to my dashboard, and lo and behold, I stumbled onto an available job! Lucky coincidence that allowed me to confirm that either my notifier is not working properly or something's up with Gengo's feed.

Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone else here using Feed Notifier? Can you recommend me other notifier apps?

Thank you!

    Hello, Gabriel.

This was happening for me days ago. I simply reinstalled Feed Notifier, set up everything and it worked again.

If you wanna check if it's working normally, simply keep an eye in the Feed Notifier icon in the notification bar. Wait for when it blinks a green arrow. Seconds after that, click in the "Job RSS" hyperlink from your Dashboard. If it prompts you a "Error 429: Too Many Requests" message, it's working (it means feed has been checked previously and this time when you checked it manually is the second time in 60 seconds).

In case you need the Feed Notifier installer, just head to this link and click the download icon in the right side of the screen, next to "Raw" and "Copy Raw file" buttons.

    Good luck

Thanks a lot! That really helps! I hope this works, I'm only 99.99% sure until I see a job pop up!

I didn't think about looking up the app on GitHub, both that version and the old installer I had lying around on my computer are 2.6, but the one from GitHub is slightly bigger, so they may not be the exact same version and this one may be more up to date.

I didn't think of your way of checking, it makes complete sense, but my results are kind of inconsistent... sometimes I get the 429 after the app checks, sometimes I don't, weird... I know my way around computers (used to be a programmer long ago), but I was never too much into web stuff... maybe it has something to do with my browser caching that page or something, if that makes sense, I observed that I don't usually get the 429 if I go back on my browser and then click again on the Job RSS link, no matter how many times, but I get it consistently if I reload inside the RSS page (shouldn't that be pretty much the same thing?).

I'm testing with this and seems to work, anyways (that test gave me problems before).

    Thanks again!

"The URL entered doesn t appear to be a valid RSS/Atom feed." is what appears to me. I also reinstalled the Feed Notifier. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Just in case, after uninstalling it, I went to Program Files (x86) and deleted the Feed Notifier folder (it contains some leftover files with your settings) and then made a clean install.

Also, make sure you are copying the URL of the feed and not the xml code you see when opening it in the browser (although I think I got that same error with the RSS test I linked earlier, despite using a proper URL, but it got fixed after reinstalling)

    I hope that helps!

I deleted everything, uninstalled and installed again, still the same message appears: "The URL entered doesn t appear to be a valid RSS/Atom feed." Has anyone run into the same problem?

    @eve

Me too! I encountered exactly the same issue as you did.

I've contacted the Support team on this. And I think they will submit this issue to their technical team.

It seems that my RSS feed URL link doesn't work, but why it suddenly didn't work starting 11 days ago remains unknown to me. I suggest you contact Support team also, since there's nothing we can do by ourselves on this techinical issue.

@eve it does happen, I also had found this problem to happen in the past as well. I simply kept trying until it worked.

By the way, is anyone experiencing a 504 Gateway Time-out error when accessing the feed right now?

I will keep trying, I'm not experiencing 504 Gateway Time-out error.

I think something is happening or maybe they are making some changes. I use feeder.co and it’s working in a strange way, I mean, job notifications aren’t appearing regularly. It’s true that lately the amount of jobs has decreased severally but there was a certain “regularity”. Beside this, when I look at the weekly statistics sent by Gengo I see many many many more jobs that the ones appearing to me.
I’ve contacted Feeder.co and everything is ok on its side.

I too experienced a 504 Gateway Time-out error when accessing the feed. That's why I said my RSS feed URL link doesn't work.

I was having the same problem as @eve (The URL entered doesn't appear to be a valid RSS/Atom feed) with Feed Notifier, so on Monday I contacted support to have them check my RSS Feed link. Waiting for an answer :-)
I haven't reinstalled it yet, but I should give it a try I guess.

It's funny, but even if the feed is timing out, I just got a job notification.

I use Feeder and I've been experiencing the same problems since this morning. To be exact, the last job notification was received 12 hours ago.

    @InmaDG

I also use Feeder and I've noticed some rather weird things lately as well. Or perhaps I should say ever since Gengo "fixed" the feed issues last January. It feels like Gengo "releases" batches of jobs during the first 15 minutes of each hour and then there's practically nothing until the next hour begins. Also, I've noticed times and times again that there are some jobs (including preferred translator jobs) for which I simply never receive any notifications. For those of us who work on here full-time, those preferred translator jobs are our bread and butter, so that's clearly a big issue. Today, I encountered an entirely new issue: I happened to randomly refresh the job page just in case and saw that a batch had just been posted (preferred translator jobs), so I pick one up and see that it's been posted a minute ago. I was thinking to myself that I was gonna receive notifications for the other ones soonish, but I received them 17(!) minutes later. And we're talking about jobs to which I'm supposed to have a priority access. So, yeah, one has to wonder what's going on again.

@S.T, same here. Last notification was at 3:00, 12 hours ago (EN-SP).

@SagaGemini, I agree with you. I've got some preferred clients who order translation everyday at the same hour (more or less) but today there's no news from them.

I've just received an email notification from Gengo because there was a job available, but no notification from Feeder.co.

What @SagaGemini says is very concerning (17 minutes... 🤦🏻‍♂️).

Also, hats off and best wishes for this (still) being a full time job for you, it used to be that way for me too (with very profitable periods, even!), but that was long ago, it's not viable anymore...

    Hello

I am experiencing the same problem, my RSS link doesn't work, and I also get the message: "504 Gateway Time-out. The server didn't respond in time."

I thought the problem was with my feed reader, but then I realized many have been experiencing the same issue.

My last received notification was 13 hours ago. Here's hoping it wouldn't take them too long to fix this issue like last time.

    Dear Rica,

I deleted my comment because I saw that Oussema Galy had already mentioned the same thing.

    Thanks for your prompt reply!

I have checked my own feed a few times a day and the responses were either "502 Bad Gateway" or "504 Gateway Time-out" for now.
