Servers are slow. It is almost impossible to get a job (and when I did get one, the file couldn't be uploaded). It just loads forever or, in the best scenario, I get an error 504 (gateway time-out) page.
It has been like that for days. Is someone else experiencing the same kind of problem? It was common back then when there were hundreds of jobs available, but it seems strange that it's happening daily :/

Hi,
Same problem here. I have reported it to Support.
Gunnar
It's quite frustrating, especially because it seems that some people are grabbing jobs anyway: I see jobs on the dashboard, I click on them, but while I get the "forever loading page" somebody else is being able to get them. Not fair.
Yes, I encounter the same. I thought this was caused by my VPN/proxy, as I had troubles with other sites too; now I see the problem's not on my side.
It's definitely a serious server-side issue and it's been happening for days now. I'm going to report it as well, though I don't know if any more reports will make the Engineering team solve the issue any faster.
Anyway, let's hope this problem gets solved soon.
carla m., why is it not fair? Other users have the same problems, that's only about luck.
Actually, I feel like this has been happening for more than a month. I still remember the recent overload of +200 jobs and how much it compromised server performance; but I also remember when hundreds of jobs arrived at another point in the previous year without many hindrances.
I can only speculate. Hardware damage? Servers too old? Budget cut? It's just not the same bullet train.
Can’t even upvote any of the comments here without getting timed-out…
Same here. "Error 502: Bad Gateway" and "Error 504 (gateway time-out)". We have been like this for weeks.
Same problem here. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem.
Doker, I would call it unfair because performance issues have been known by Gengo for ages, and apparently nothing is being done to solve them. They just get worse and worse. There must be something they can do on their end to optimize translators' experience and help us do our job properly with minimum downtime (and here I also include the ability to work on large collections smoothly, or at all, which is almost impossible and they know it and have admitted to me). I also noticed that some weird URLs appear on the bottom of the page while I'm attempting to accept jobs ("waiting for..."). I wonder if the current problems are caused by the thousands of teeny tiny jobs that I've seen in my language pair from time to time the past few weeks, which are a pain to work on and they're being paid at less than half the usual rate.
Val, I mean that the competition among translators is not unfair because everyone is in the same conditions.
Katrina Paterson doesn't work for Gengo anymore. I don't think we'll get the answer here XD
Yeah this server problem definitely getting more and more prominent nowadays, even just a couple of jobs (<10) coming in would trigger a server error, e.g. timeout page, loop loading, or even a log-in page instead.
And I agree with @guifrogarts, that this problem has been occuring since months ago.
edit: Just sent a support ticket. I encouraged everyone to do the same since we don't have a community manager atm.
I just wish someone from Gengo/Lionbridge would comment on this. The website is still exasperatingly slow.
Hi,
Same problem here. I have reported it on several occasions. They tell me they will report the problem to the DEV team. But I have not received any specific information about the problem's origin and resolution.
I encounter this problem mentioned above more and more often. In the past, such complete crashes of Gengo's servers (when it even logs me out or the page takes forever to load, only to give a 502 or 504 error at the end) happened sporadically. Now? There isn't a month that this doesn't happen, and the last 2-3 weeks it's almost everyday occurence. I really do hope it is not a sign Gengo has some major problems as a company, as Gengo is really important in my career.
Piotr, as someone who has worked for Gengo for more than 11 years, I can assure you that these crashes have been a part of Gengo for many, many years, unfortunately. This is despite the fact that Gengo considers Kaizen, the Japanese management philosophy of continuous improvement, to be one of its core values. Therefore, I wouldn't be too worried about it. There were situations in the past where it would take them weeks to fix similar issues with the server.
In the past, Gengo took steps to inform their translator workforce, though (i. e. through the translator dashboard). At the moment, there doesn't even seem to be a community manager active on this board.
I wonder if potential customers encounter the same problems when ordering translations. I would assume so since the number of translation jobs has decreased noticeably in the past week.
JJH, What a great "support-comment"! For lack of a community manager, your comment has cleared me up several questions! I belong to the English- Latam pair, and I couldn't get any forum about this issue in Spanish. So I had been experiencing all these issues some weeks now, and, due to the lack of information, I even thought that, imperatively, I was got to go thinking about updating my laptop because it wasn't able to process data fluently yet! Now, I don't need to ask for a borrow, at least. As a matter of fact, there's nothing to do but keep waiting. Gracias, amigo JJH!
For my pair, I've been experiencing the decrease since roughly end of March (normally used to be one of the busiest month). The frequency of jobs coming in is still there, it's the volume that took a noticeable dive.
504 Gateway Time-out and here we are...
Same here.. it's been going on for weeks now and I don't understand why nothing's being done about it.
And here we are again with this issue. The dashboard became a mess with something like 64+ jobs sent in by a customer. The page freezes, jobs can't be taken, and once taken can't be completed and/or submittted. If you manage to submit it, it keeps on showing up as incomplete. If you manage to re-open the job, it says there's nothing to submit in the collection, only to reappear as incomplete. I don't recall having seen the Dashboard as messed-up as today. And these are just <$1 jobs.
Will these bugs ever be fixed? They're extremely annoying and detrimental to the user experience of us as translators.
Unbelievable...
Another thing that happened a couple of times today: After clicking the "start translating" button, I got a message that the job was no longer available, but actually it had been assigned to me. Basically, in the worst case, you're none the wiser until you get the expiration reminder mail. So it's always a good idea to double-check.
This has happened before, but rarely.
Hello everyone!
We apologize for the inconvenience and lack of notice for this issue. The team is looking into it. I will compile all the comments you've shared in this thread and pass them along to the department that will take care of them.
We are grateful for your patience and understanding on this matter. We really appreciate your continuous support in the community.
Have a great day ahead, guys, and stay safe! :)
Unbelievable...it's happening again right now.
It's hard to have jobs on the platform, and EVERY TIME we have a bunch of them it's impossible to pick one. Months of this topic and nothing done. So frustrating.
Today it's happening again… It's been 2 hours since the problem reappeared
