Has the coronavirus crisis forced you to put your 2020 travel plans on hold? Restrictions on travel have meant that many of us have had to delay everything from holidays to major life events, and it can feel very much like where we are is where we will continue to be for a while now.
So, since we can’t take ourselves out into the world, we’d love to bring the world closer to one another by sharing photos of where we are at this moment in time. Feel free to post a photo in the comments of the view from your window or your street or neighborhood. Or write us a short paragraph about where you're based now and what the lockdown conditions are like where you live.

This is my street in south Manchester. As you can see, it’s a typical English suburb and the sky is cloudy as usual. The architecture isn’t particularly inspiring, but we’re close to the countryside so it’s easy to escape for a while. At least it’s not raining!

I've been so excited for Katrina to put this post up, as I would love to learn more about where each of our translators comes from, your surroundings, and what your daily lives are like :) Here's a picture of my street in the suburbs of Yokohama, where I live! Some of you who have been with us for a while may know that I lived in Morocco for the past few years, and I relocated to Japan in February 2019 with my family. I had already lived in Japan for a long time back when I was a student and it certainly felt like coming back home.

Hello everyone!Here in Brazil, the coronavirus has changed everything. Rio de Janeiro, the city that I live since I was born, the mayor has created many rules to increase security, modify everyday habits, and not let coronavirus spread. I do not take risks, I only go out to work and go to the market, in other words, I only go out in case of necessity. People here are hopeful, they believe that the vaccine will be created by the end of the year. The picture I took is the view from my apartment balcony. It's cold and dark (it's winter).

Hello. Gunnar here! Luckily enough, in Norway we seem to have the corona situation under control, but nobody are completely out of the woods yet. As my wife and I are retired, the corona situation has not been as challenging for us as for people who have to go to work and people with children at school etc. We have cancelled all our planned holiday travels abroad this year, and have mostly been staying at home. With more time at home I have been able to pick up more Gengo jobs. I enjoy translating for Gengo, and this is my favourite spot, where I can follow the boat traffic in this narrow sound just outside my appartment.
This is the view from my window, near Edinburgh, Scotland. It's also pretty grey here!
I'm staying with my dad at the moment and I was glad to be with family when lockdown happened! I initially had plans to get a working holiday visa to go back to Japan this year, but that has been put on the backburner. As it is I'm enjoying working for Gengo and a couple of other places. I'm also trying desperately to infiltrate the field of manga/anime translation and have taken the first baby step on the big dream - I've started working on a PhD proposal!

Hi! Manab here. I come from Guwahati, India. Although my country is badly affected by this pandemic, and we are still seeing largest daily increases in cases; but our area isn't effected much. We have a relatively less dense population around here and there hasn't been a single case in my area yet. So pretty much everything is normal here. Except for the schools are closed and mask is compulsory to wear outside. However, like every other year, flood has hit us yet again, leaving devastation behind. And oh, by the way, this is the Brahmaputra river. People come here everyday in the evening to spend some time and enjoy the lovely view.
Hello folks, David here, reporting from Buenos Aires. I've been living here since 2017 when I moved from Venezuela. I've been in lockdown since March, working from home and grabbing Gengo jobs every now and then. Right now we're in the middle of southern winter, so it's rather cold, although not freezing. I live on the 17th floor of a 26-floor building, so I have a bird's eye view of the city. I've lost count of how many sunset pictures I've snapped since I've been living here--I truly love sunsets here!
Hi all! Kevan here, in beautiful Portland (Oregon, USA). This is the view from my seventh-floor window, facing west (downtown would be behind me). I get a lot of sun all year long, and in the summer it gets quite hot in my apartment! (Like many in Portland, we don't have air conditioning.) We had two consecutive days of 100 degrees in the city a few days back, but it's cooler today. Luckily, it's always a dry heat in the summer, and it always cools off at night, so that the mornings are fresh and pleasant. It only gets really hot in the afternoon and evening.
The streets here are narrow and relatively quiet, and there are so many different varieties and types trees and plants everywhere, it feels like walking in a park or a forest. In some places, the street is totally covered by the canopy of trees meeting from the two sides! It's always inviting to go out for a walk!
And yet it's a densely populated neighborhood with many big supermarkets, stores, restaurants, etc. within just a few blocks. I can also walk to either the Pearl District or Downtown in about 10-15 minutes. That means it's been easy to go about my life despite the pandemic. (I cut it off in the photo, but there's a cluster of rental bikes just across the street, too, and those rental scooters are practically everywhere.)
A lot of parking spaces in the neighborhood have been given over to outdoor seating (parklets) to help restaurants survive during this troubling period, and they are quite popular, especially in the evening, at 7 or 8 they are full of diners! But, sadly, a number of restaurants and stores have closed permanently. I'm sure others will follow, as this doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon.
Masks are compulsory outside when you're unable to maintain social distancing, and in all stores and businesses and mass transit. Most people are compliant here.
All in all, I feel fortunate to live in such a beautiful city, and despite feeling sad about the general condition of the world, life is good here.

What a great idea this sharing of photos is! I enjoyed every one of your pictures. Posted here is a picture of my street in suburban Phoenix, Arizona as seen from the second floor of my house. COVID-19 is not under good control in Maricopa County right now, and hospitals are full. We have a mask requirement when we are outside, and most people are now complying. I'm very fortunate in that I can work two jobs from home and study translation at the university online, so I stay home.

here is a view of my street from the living room window. I live in Palm Coast, Florida. The situation here is not nearly as bad as it is in the south of Florida, however, I still wouldn't say it is good. I try not to go out very much and I spend a lot of time inside hanging out with my cats. Sheldon was enjoying a nap in the window until I disturbed him. I've really enjoyed looking at everyone's comments!

Hi, all! Rodrigo here. One more out of Rio de Janeiro. I've been living here for 13 years now and this will be the first year I am thinking of not taking a short trip back home to see my folks and friends in Argentina. The pandemic was taken quite seriously by the population here, but unfortunately not so by the authorities. Right now we're going through a reopening phase arising lots of questions and doubts reagrding the possible consequences (sadly,
Brazil's been one of the worst countries in fighting the pandemic). This here is my really quiet street with a glimpse of the famous Corcovado's rock and the Cristo Redentor on its top on this beautiful sunny wednesday.

Greetings from Graz, Austria! This is the view from my flat, which is centrally located and yet surrounded by greenery, and which I share with my partner and my 2 lovely Croatian rescue cats. After 7 weeks lockdown and not being able to see family and friends in March and April, the Covid situation seems to be under control at the moment, the number of active cases is on a stable level, increasing slightly, but the hospitals have enough capacities. I am glad Austria has such a good healthcare system and handles the situation that well, in my native country Namibia the situation is worse, lockdown for months and people already quite desperate.
How can we comment back to all the nice contributions? I didn't find it out. There are some people from places, I like a lot, all are sympathic, why can't we send friendly replies. Especially to Brazil, which is hit do hard by the pandemic!

This is my work desk at home in Helsinki. We get to see lots of wildlife from our balcony, including hedgehogs, squirrels, rabbits/hares, birds, and occasionally a fox and a wolverine. The situation around the virus has been stable. We are enjoying the last moments of summer before autumn rolls around, followed by the long and dark Finnish winter.
