Last year, I already ran into 1099 issues with Gengo. This year it happened again.

Gengo says translators should contact Support if they don't see their 1099 at the end of February, and silly me, without keeping track of the amount I made in 2019, reached out to Support on Feb 29th regarding the missing 1099 form. It went well enough, the rep told me that he checked my records and saw that I made less than $600 in 2019, therefore I wouldn't receive a 1099. I made a calculation to confirm it, and I thought that the problem was solved.

Then I finished up all my taxes and got them submitted. Today, March 11th, I got Gengo's 1099 in the mail, with the wrong amount on it, $615.89. Not to mention that they got my first name wrong and left out part of my first name as if it was a middle name.

So now, thinking about I might have to redo my taxes, with a late 1099, with the wrong amount on it, makes me want to slap someone. After this ordeal is wrapped up, I'm done with Gengo. This type of shit incidents are simply not worth making some pocket money.

    Hi @christinesun86,

I am sorry to hear that you've had this experience. You shouldn't have to go through this, and it goes without saying that this type of incident is in no way, shape, or form, an accurate representation of the standards for the experience that we strive to provide our community with.

I will personally follow up with your case in order to find out what has exactly happened, how to ensure this doesn't happen again in the future, and how to make it up to you. If you still decide that you're done with Gengo after we clear up the situation, that's entirely up to you and I completely understand. I just wanted to let you know that I agree with you that this shouldn't have happened, that we care, and that we're willing to correct this mistake.

    Thank you for your patience,

    Lara

Hi Lara, since the last time wrote I haven't received any updates, nor do I know any offered solutions for my current issue. The taxes are a serious and time-sensitive matter and I can't be stuck. I've proposed that Gengo cancel my 2019's 1099 form and put the amount on it towards my 2020's 1099. Please update as soon as you can.

    Hi @christinesun86,

I understand you're frustrated, and rightly so, but I don't think misrepresenting our efforts publicly on the forums is the best course of action for anybody.

I am aware that after I wrote to you on here, you have received an email for Antonio clarifying a couple of points, and letting you know that I'd be investigating deeper into the issue to figure out what exactly happened, and what we could do. Unfortunately, this process requires coordinating across timezones with our Manila office and our accounting firm in the US -- this is why we chose to have Antonio email you first with the information that we already had while I focused on finding out the rest.

I will be updating you following this comment privately via email, as the Gengo public forums are not the best place to share your individual financial situation and/or next steps. Please look out for an email from me within the next hour.

    Thanks,

    Lara
