Welcome to Gengo!
Thank you for your interest in translating for Gengo.
For this project, you will be translating user-generated social media posts. As with any user-generated content, you may occasionally encounter slang or explicit language—please note that this should be translated as closely as possible to the source text.

- Serbian>English
- English>Assamese
- English>Azerbaijani
- English>Gusii
- English>Iloko
- English>Kachin

- English>Kalenjin

***IMPORTANT*** Before starting the project or taking our translator test, it's very important that you read and understand the translation guidelines. Please make sure that you read the project guidelines here before you take the test, and come back to them whenever you need to while you work on the project.
In order to become a translator, you'll need to sign up with us and take a multiple choice test in your language pair. The test will include both questions on the above project guidelines and test your proficiency in both languages.
Please feel free to comment below or email support@gengo.com if you have any questions or need technical assistance.
Looking forward to having you join our ever-growing community!

hi,
I open the language pair test, but there is no Javanese/Sundanese - English language pair. There is only English-Indonesian Language pair but there is no test available currently. I am a native Javanese speaker as I am Javanese and interested to join the project. Please kindly let me know how to take the test. Thank you.
Hi @lbt.idid14,
Thanks for your interest in translating for Gengo :)
You are correct - tests into Javanese/Sundanese are not open yet. We're currently gauging interest, and the tests will open soon. In order to receive a notification once they open, please fill out this survey here.
Thanks,
Lara
Hi,
Based on your email request, I have registered myself and opened the Gengo account. But while trying to take the test I have realized that my language pair (English - Assamese) is not available as yet. Kindly advise the next course of action. I am interested to be associated with Gengo. Thanking you in anticipation!
Best Regards,
Bidyut
Hi Bidyut,
Thanks for registering with us, and for your interest in working with Gengo :)
Please note that the language pair is not English to Assamese, but Assamese into English. It is available as we speak - make sure you select Assamese first in the dropdown menu, and then English as the target.
Thanks!
Lara
Hi,
I find it interesting to join this project. I am a native Sundanese. I have completed the Pre-test and Standard Sundanese to English - test. However, I can't take the Pro-test as it's written that you are not currently accepting new test submissions at this level. Could you please inform me whether the project is still open at this moment? Thank you.
Best regards,
Alda
Hi Alda,
Thanks for your interest in this project. The project is conducted at Standard level only, and we don't currently have Pro level tests for your language pair.
It seems like there's currently not much incoming job volume in your language pair at the moment, but the project is expected to continue :) I recommend to check your dashboard regularly, and perhaps install an RSS Feed Reader to receive notifications of available jobs without having to refresh your browser manually.
Thanks,
Lara
Hi, I'm currently a translator for a Javanese-English language pair. I want to know if the project for my language pair is expected to be a long running project or just one time only?
Best Regards,
Rahmat
Hi @miftakhur.geophysics,
From what we know, the project has enough volume to run for about one more month. However, that depends entirely on the customer's needs and is subject to change.
Thanks,
Lara
Hi! Done registering and doing some translation job in my pair Cebuano-English. Hoping to get more job translation and my first payout soon. Thank you so much Gengo.
Hello,
During the Standard test for Assamese to English, the Assamese sentences didn't appear at all. There were just English sentences. Please help.
Hi Johnny,
Please carefully read the instructions displayed, as they contained questions, and enter your answers to those questions in your test.
Thanks,
Lara
Hello,
When do you think will there be another opening for Cebuano-English language pairs?
Looking forward to your reply. Thanks
Hi @m4rkc4rlo,
At the moment, the amount of volume we had received for translation from Cebuano into English has already been completed. We don't know at this point whether the customer will be placing further orders in this language pair, so testing is closed, and at the moment we cannot foresee a need for reopening it soon. This could of course change anytime, so please stay tuned to our Facebook page for timely announcements.
Thanks,
Lara
Hi Lara,
I am interested in Javanese - English pair but didn't find it on both test and survey page, will there be another opening for this pair? Thank you!
Hi @damarakhma,
At the moment, Javanese is not in the list of languages the customer is considering to order next. Thanks!
Hello, I saw an Ad on my feed that talks about translating from Cameroonian pidgin to English . I checked the site but didn't see any test . I wrote to customer service and was sent a link that has taken me to this site . Please I would love to know more. I am interested . Thank you!
Hi @berlynedo,
My apologies for the late reply as I was out of office.
I have checked and it looks like the tests are available, but they're from English into Cameroonian Pidgin English, and not the other way around :)
Hope this helps,
Lara
Hello, I followed the link from an ad on Instagram but I couldn't find a test for the advertised English/Czech language pair, is this project still open? Thank you.
@rionka - Tests for Czech into English are currently open :) We're not hiring for English into Czech, though.
it was said in ad that you need ukrainian/english translators but there is no such pair unfortunately
Hi @serchhe - Indeed, we were hiring translators from Ukrainian into English. However, tests were closed a couple of days ago, as we've filled out the necessary number of positions. Please note that we need to maintain a certain ratio between incoming job volume and active translators, which means we can't keep tests open indefinitely. We may open them again in the future as need arises, though! :)
I open the language pair test, but there is no Tigrigna - English language pair. meanwhile, Facebook page of Gengo shows "do you want to work Tigrigna English Translator ", and opening the "Taketest" link there is Japanese to English discussion forum. I am a native Tigrigna speaker and interested to join the project. Please kindly let me know how to take the test.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
@Kinfe - indeed, there is no Tigrigna to English pair because we don’t offer it. We’re hiring for English into Tigrigna, not the other way around. Therefore, you need to select English as the source language (first drop down menu) and then Tigrigna as the target. It doesn’t work the other way around :)
I have signed up with Gengo for translating from English to Tigrigna, however when I proceed to take translator test I couldn't find Tigrigna in the target language list. Is there any other option to take the test?
Please help.
In advance I appreciate for your support.
Thanks,
Samson
@samii12.sg - Are you sure you weren't looking for Tigrigna in the source language list?
It's showing alright on my end :)
Hi, I did my registration successfully but I couldn't find ENGLISH to KAMBA translation pair as requested earlier. Kindly advise or send me a link I can sort my issue.
Thanks
Blessings,,
@Gerald - please refer to the Tests tab and select as shown below. Then click Show tests, and select Start.
Dear Lara,
could I get explanation what is standard test is, what is the step after passed the pre-test? is standard test mandatory to take?
sincerely,
Hi @kifmitmu -- If you want to access jobs, then yes, the Standard test is mandatory. Just passing the pre-test will *not* grant you access to any jobs. Depending on your language pair, the Standard test may be project specific, or it may be a translation of a source text. All you need to do is carefully read the instructions that will be displayed on it, and follow them :)
Hello,
Please, are they any limitations to the number of language pairs one can qualify for at the same time?
Thanks a lot!
