It would be nice to know why these server issues happen so often. Is Gengo getting DoS attacks or is it their server that's not able to cope with a high but legitimate influx of server requests (e.g. when there are lots of available jobs in many pairs)?

And why isn't there a custom error page and/or email when that happens, with a message saying "We are aware of the current issues... We'll send you an email when it is fixed (so we don't waste your time in the meantime).... And please don't worry if you need your expired job back or extra time...."

    None of that "customary conduct".

    Hi,

Does anyone else get the "Visiting an untrustworthy website has been prevented" message when clicking on details within an email from Gengo? This just started recently (e.g., feedback within a review email). Clearing browsing data/cache worked at first, for about 10 minutes, until the problem was back. (Just wondering because of potential security issues with the frequent server problems).

@Yasemin no such message on my side with emails from no-reply@gengo.com and support@gengo.com on Gmail.

@Yasemin I've been seeing that too on my side.

@SagaGemini, are you using Chrome as well? Support suggested I use Firefox, but I have everything set up in Chrome and this didn't happen before. No big issue re. the emails, ie, clicking on the links isn't important, but I was just wondering about security issues in the light of recent outages.

Also, it only appears on my laptop (not phone). Virus scan etc done.

Yes, I am using Chrome as well. But to be honest, if you use a proper antivirus software (i.e., something like Kaspersky), I wouldn't be too worried about that. What's a bit worrisome here is how well their entire IT infra is run, maintained, protected and upgraded.

Yes, I use Kaspersky, too. Thanks. And agreed. :) I heard of a recent server update, see what happens.

    Hi there,

Anyone else experienced the 504 again just now? Feels like Groundhog Day. :)

Not yet but pages have been loading super slowly this morning

It's back to normal here but was there for about half an hour as well. Of course, a ton of jobs were posted during 504. :)

Well, it seems that I don't get notified of much since I'm only using the feed reader and jobs are not even making it to the Feeder because of the instant mail notifications. I just received the weekly recap email and it said that there were over 700 collections in my language pair (EN>FR) last week and I saw very little of it despite being glued to my laptop 60+ hours a week.

    Hi SagaGemini,

I really recommend trying out instant notifications. Feeder is a bit useless currently, and I can safely say I've been notified about the plus minus 800 collections past week in my main pair.

@SagaGemini, please keep us posted on how you are getting on with the email notifications, because it is indeed an excellent tool as an "alerter", but it is quite another thing if you get a job. Your language pair is, like mine, one of the most populated and complicated to work with, so I'd be interested to know your experience in this regard.
I had the instant notifications on for a few days but I ended up removing them because it made me anxious to receive so many emails and not be able to get any jobs.

    @Inma

I will! So far, my only feedback would be that it's a rather slow process and I don't really expect to be able to snatch up many of those jobs.

Fingers crossed! I am not sure about your respective language pairs, and a more intense competition will of course lower the success rate but it's definitely worth trying, I'd say. I do also miss quite a few jobs but for me it's rather reassuring to see jobs being posted, especially in light of recent (feeder and other) issues.

Well, about two and a half days in, I can say that I get notified of about three time more jobs than with Feeder. So either Gengo didn't bother to fix their RSS Feed or the jobs don't even get picked up by the feed reader because of the 60 second interval. Anyway, I have hardly managed to snatch up any of those jobs with the instant email notifications (perhaps a couple so far this week) because it's a painfully long process, pages are often slow to load and jobs are almost systematically gone already by the time the job page has loaded. The RSS Feed is virtually useless at the moment indeed and those instant email notifications are such an antiquated and unpractical way of delivering notifications that they are about equally as useless right now. I would need to manually refresh the page every minute or so to have a fair chance at snatching any jobs up, which makes me feel like Gengo has thrown their honest translators under the bus once more because they have no idea how to fix things or stop some people from abusing the platform.

    Hi SagaGemini :),

Are you using Feeder.co? I am currently waiting for Erik from Feeder to reroute emails with an "only pro level" filter to feeder, but he seems busy this week, so it may take a bit longer to do so. The RSS Feed IS useless at the moment, I agree. Have asked Maria and she told me that Gengo cannot reduce the 60 seconds interval right now because the system does not allow for it. But maybe, if we get re-routed emails (at least SOME kind of filter), combined with the notifications, it's still not great, but better than nothing, I suppose.

Hi everyone. All your insights on this thread will be shared with our team. Thanks @Yasemin, for sharing some info. 💚

As mentioned, regarding the interval of the RSS feed, the tech team doesn't have any plans to modify it at the moment. This is dependent on how our systems are currently operating and the opportunities we have available.

Your input on how we can improve the email notification details is very helpful. We will directly communicate it with the tech team and see if we can implement it. Thank you.

    Hi Yasemin,

Yes, I am using Feeder.co like many people. What you are mentioning is not a bad idea in itself and would indeed be better than nothing but it cannot be a permanent solution either. In my honest opinion, Gengo has to get their things together before they lose most of their customers and (honest) translators.

    Hi Rica,

Please also consider notifying about reward amounts, because as mentioned previously, the current notification only tells you the job level which is not very useful. Thanks!

    Hi SagaGemini,

I agree that it is not a very good solution yet (just better than nothing at the moment). Feeder only picks up jobs that happen to be posted once every minute, so it's just a small fraction. I think at this point, email notifications with reward amounts would be really helpful, as this way, the emails can be re-routed to feeder not just by job level but also with a reward filter.

PS: I also noticed that the page seemed to load way slower yesterday, meaning less jobs can be grabbed that way.

    @Rica

saw someone mentioning possibility of new server. how likely is this?

can you get rid of glossary bit? cant get to the job panel on mobile when you have that sitting there, the screen is lock

on mobile you dont get tool bar. would be great if you can get someone to sort that out

is there any point in reporting 504? the answer is always the same. it does eventually get sorted although I will probably never find out how asap it actually was
