So I have just tested instant notifications, since they seem to finally work for me, as well, and I could see how they could complement the feeder function (ie, you do not have to refresh your dashboard all the time, for smaller jobs that would be filtered through by feeder). However, what I noticed is that instant notifications seem to have shut down the feeder function (I am using feeder.co). I have taken out the reward filter from my feeder for test purposes, so should be notified about every single job and I am not receiving any feeder notifications currently. Anyone else experiencing this? (And yes, support is notified).

I noticed the problem yesterday evening and wondered if it was just me (my feeder) but I also had the feeling that the "fix something, break something else" rule is alive and well at Gengo... :-( I don't even bother writing to support anymore, it's so depressing.

    Hi Carla,

Thanks for your response. Support tells me that third-party apps like Feeder are not supported by Gengo and suggests to prioritize one or the other, but as far as I remember, feeder was actually suggested by Gengo years ago (I've been using it for many years, mostly without any issues), and for me personally, instant notifications only make sense in combination with feeder, ie, on days when there are several small-scale jobs that would not make it to a feeder notification but I may still be willing to work on them, it's convenient not to refresh the dashboard constantly and to still be notified in a fast way. Prioritizing one or the other seems like an option, but not a solution to me.

Do they really expect us to give up feed readers?

My RSS feed has been down for the past 17 hours.
It seems that this issue isn't related to instant notifications (at least in my case). I received a 504 error message. The server is just down.

    Hi Carla,

So, I think what they mean is feeder.co as a third-party app. Somehow it seems to interfere (for unknown reasons) with the instant notification feature.

I don't use Feeder nor instant notifications, but my RSS feed has also been down since yesterday evening.

    Hi @fudesaki,

Did you write to support? This is confusing, because on one hand, it seems like the two interfere with each other, but in your case, it's unrelated, and maybe there is currently a more general RSS feed problem going on?

I think it's some other problem, since I'm in the same situation as fudesaki: no instant notifications, different feed reader.

I was not at all interested in instant notifications initially (mainly because it took ages to actually work, several weeks when it was first implemented) and thought I'd just get a ton of emails and since there is no reward filter, you would even get notified about the tiniest of jobs. Having tested it now, it's not as bad as I first thought, so if the problem is unrelated, I might keep it on for now (better than checking the dashboard all the time). I will say hallelujah when and if both should work simultaneously in the future. :)

Yes, the RSS feed has been down since yesterday. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.

On the other hand, am I the only one that feels that in their current form the instant e-mail notifications are useless? They don't provide a link to the actual job that just became available but a link to the dashboard. Unless there are several jobs arriving at the same time, I don't see how you could grab a job after losing those precious seconds (compared to someone notified through RSS or manually refreshing the dashboard).

    Hi Marcelito,

I also initially thought they were useless, and obviously, they lack some of the features of the RSS reader, ie, no reward filter or direct link. However, I noticed that I was able to grab quite a few jobs (way more than sometimes with Feeder), even if they were small ones. What it does for me is, I don't need to refresh the dashboard all the time (especially in times with less and smaller jobs), but only when I get an email notification. The several smaller jobs yesterday added up to an amount I wouldn't have earned without being notified, unless I'd be glued to the screen 24/7. :)

I have notified support about this being seemingly unrelated to instant notifications. Also, my jobs RSS link on the dashboard does not load or kicks me out so I have to log back in (just noticed this). Thanks guys for sharing! :)

The rss is useless now for obvious reason. If emails are more or less instant, Rss that updates 1 time in 60 seconds has almost no chance to show any job. It still shows but very rarely. To revive Rss the update interval for rss shall be changed to 1-5 seconds

    Hi @dropinner,

Are you sure? If this were the case, RSS should have more or less stopped working when instant notifications were introduced and functioning. But up until a few days ago, I did still receive regular RSS updates and was able to grab a few jobs. Not as frequently as it used to be, but still.

I have received at least 40 instant emails for projects and not a single rss yesterday. I guess the situation is clear. Indeed, if a project is not taken within minute, rss could be sent but the chances are very low

Well, that is the whole topic of this post, ie, it looks like (at least for me) instant notifications are blocking the RSS. But if you look at other answers here, the RSS seems to have stopped working regardless of whether you use instant notifications or not. And it was working for me just a few days ago (when instant notifications should also have been working), so something is off but not necessarily having to do with the one-minute intervall.

The problem is that rss has a direct link to the job and email leads to a general page and more clicks are necessary. In most cases general page is already empty after opening it. Moreover emails maybe instant but email services are not and have certain delays unlike rss. The more reasonable option would be reducing rss interval

Re. there not being a direct link: I am actually opening the dashboard in a different window and just refresh it directly whenever I see an incoming notification email from Gengo. That way, I was able to grab quite a few jobs. :)

So I haven't been doing any gengo job since feed notifier broke down (for gengo only).

What is this instant notification? And how can I set it up?

It's in "APL settings" I guess? But I don't understand a thing there........

    Hi everyone.

We apologize for the delay and inconvenience this issue has caused. We are looking into it. Me and our community manager, Maria, will communicate closely with the support and engineering teams to investigate the incident.

We are always grateful for your patience, understanding, and continuous support of our community.

    Hi Rica,

Thanks. Please also note that there is an unusual unresponsiveness going on re. support. I have sent a ticket on Friday and am still waiting for a response, and I sent various reminders, too. This is not typical for Gengo support.

Haven't gotten any RSS notifications this last couple of days either. I click on the link to my RSS feed and I get a "504  Gateway Timeout" error message, even after having closed my RSS reader, so I imagine the issue is on Gengo's side. Also, I have never received any "Instant Email notifications", despite having made sure to select said option in Settings and that no @gengo addresses are blacklisted on my email.

Also, as I write this, no Gengo pages are loading and my account logged out... the server's going haywire for sure.

Status update: RSS feeder is back to NOT working, the jobs RSS also does not load. Instant notifications, however, do continue to work here.

The RSS feeder worked for maybe half an hour yesterday afternoon, then went down again. I few times I was logged out, and the dashboard seemed to have a life of its own (very funny actually). Luckily, I was still able to grab jobs thanks to instant notifications. Every day is an experiment with different settings, ahahah, let's see what today brings. Good day, fellow translators :-)

    Hi everyone.

We got confirmation from our engineering manager that the RSS feed reader issue (502 error) has been resolved. They also put measures in place to prevent this kind of issue in the future. If you are still experiencing it, please check first again with your RSS feed provider. Once they confirm everything is fine on their end, please send a report to the ticket (along with the confirmation) and a screenshot of the issue. It will greatly help the support and technical teams address this issue.

It is also clarified that the email notification settings and RSS feeder work independently.
