My current translation project includes this sentence:
海外の文献をあさり学びました。
I've never heard of あさり学ぶ before, and I can't find any references to it online.
Surely clams have nothing to do with the study of foreign literature?
Is anyone familiar with this?

「あさり学ぶ」は「漁る（あさる）」と「学ぶ」が合わさっています。なので、海外の文献を "searching (or hunting through?) " and "learning" したということだと思います。

でした。
片っ端から読みまくって知識を得た。ということです。
「読み漁る」という表現が正しいかもしれません。
こんにちは。
「あさり学ぶ」とは聞き慣れない言葉でしたので、どこかの方言ではないかと検索しました。東北の片田舎では、「かっぽぐった」「おしょすい」「おだづまっこ」「すったのはげだの」、日本語の辞書に載っていない言葉がたくさんあるので、もしかしたらと思いましたが…。「読み漁る」の間違いだったのですね。
