If you're refering to standard level jobs, I guess it's simply because the quiz project, which had made up a huge bulk of jobs, is finished.
As for pro jobs, I don't think there's less now than the few we usually got.

Edit to previous post: Sorry, I had misread the language pair.

Having just joined Gengo, I don't know how things have been regarding German> English translation in the past, but I see that there are no (Standard) jobs at the moment. I hope that this will change! Does anyone have an information on this?

I'd also be very much interested in an answer to the question Naomi posted. I am in the same situation (just joined Gengo and am waiting for my first translation job here). Thanks everyone!

The same applies to me, but I suspect they probably wouldn't be hiring new translators for this language pair unless they were in need of additional workforce, so I am optimistic that there will be a large amount of jobs sooner or later.

There´s not even a test anymore that you can take for German/English or vice versa.

Hi all,
I am sorry to hear that you guys are currently experiencing a lack of jobs in your language pair. Please keep in mind that job volume fluctuates during the year and that our Marketing Team is always working hard to bring in new customers! :)
@Quicktrans Translations - When tests become unavailable for a specific language pair it means that they have been turned off. The reason why we do this is to maintain a certain balance between the work volume and the number of active translators, and we turn them on again when it becomes necessary. So the fact the the tests are off at the moment does not mean that we won't open them again in the future!
Hope this helps!

There do seem to be some German>English jobs coming in now, which is great to see! But I am never fast enough in accepting a suitable job - someone always gets in first! In a way, this is great - a translator somewhere has a piece of work to do, and the translation is being acted on very quickly, which is good for Gengo's reputation. On the other hand, I find this way of working (or trying to work) very uncomfortable indeed - having to try to grab a piece of work first. :o(

Yes Naomi, I fully agree. I have often clicked on a link immediately upon receipt, just to be told on the Gengo website: 'Sorry, you may have to be quicker next time!'
I couldn't have been any quicker! Sometimes I wonder whether it is due to the time difference - i.e. that translators living nearer to the Gengo point of origin really get these e-mails first?

same thing happens to me. I have yet to get a translation. And the test for the next level is also blocked, even though when I passed the first level the responder recommended I take the professional test. Very frustrating.

Sadly I've decided to turn off the e-mail notifications - after repeated attempts, only to find the job is already taken, I have lost hope of obtaining a translation job with Gengo for the time being! Perhaps things improve - I do hope so!
