At this moment around 50 separate small jobs came available and I can only do one every five minutes due to the 'bug' that completed jobs remain incomplete. Great....

I experienced the same problem, frustrating indeed. I'm a new translator by the way, not sure if everyone introduces themselves here?

People don't officially introduce themselves, but it would be awesome if they did! So, hello and welcome! My name's Natalia and I'm Gengo's Translator Community Manager :)

Hi Natalia! I am sorry, I was not sure where I could introduce myself. My name is Marleen, I am 24 years old and recently I started translating from English to Dutch.

Also, re. the incomplete job bug: our engineers are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. Unfortunately, however, it's not an easy one to solve, but hopefully they'll get there soon. Thanks for your patience in the interim.

    Hello Marleen!

Welkom/welcome to this great community, hopefully you'll earn as much dollars here as I do ;).

And thanks to Natalia for the response, the site is working a lot faster and the bug which I noted above is still there, but less frustrating since the waiting time for a refresh of the job isn't that long anymore. Good luck tot the development team for fixing it, I have good hope and trust that they will!

    Dear team, dear Natalia -

I only just stumbled upon this thread searching for quite different information but now, being here, I would like to add that I miss(ed) a thread like "introduce yourselves" myself as well. For sure that's not one of the most urgent issues but it would be nice to have some thread like that.

    Best regards,

    Maria

(and, just while being here, one more even less important question: where do you upload a picture of yourself in order not to look just like another grey pawn in a game?)

Lovely to meet you, Marleen and Maria! :) I think a thread like that is a great idea! Do you want to get the ball rolling? Where do you think it should be? Here or in the Free For All forum?

@Jasper, great to hear things have improved and thanks for the vote of confidence—I'm sure our devs appreciate it!

@Maria, if you click on your name in the top right hand corner, you will be taken to your profile page. You can update your profile pic there.

    Dear Natalia, dear Marleen -

sounds like a plan, I could probably start a thread tomorrow or Tuesday . I suggest we use the Free For All Forum as otherwise new translators who work in several languages would have to introduce themselves in several forums, that might not be too handy.

    Best regards,Maria

This bug still exists. I experienced the same: I finish a job and I can not start a new one, since the old one still shows up as incomplete. But the lag is not five minutes, as the thread starter mentioned, but rather 30-60 seconds. Just enough for a short "technical" break, we are all human beings anyway :)

However, when there are many ungrouped jobs, where each job is very small (less than 10 words), this glitch can be really frustrating. This will seriously cut back a translator's efficiency, and doing his math he can come to the conclusion that working in a system like this does not pay off. When a translator is able to proces only 10 words in a minute then he might consider this frustrating experience as a waste of his precious time and will quickly switch to other partners.

There is not so much work in my language pair (EN > HU) to have much experience with this glitch, but I see less ungrouped jobs now, especially as the Tripadvisor project started in my language. Perhaps the developers wanted to address this problem by grouping up separated tiny jobs, what IMHO is not a real solution, but rather a workaround. I know a bit about database management and I understand that this is not an easy glitch to fix, but the dev guys should make all efforts to get rid of this delay ASAP.

Keep up the good work! :)

Hi, I've got about 2000 or so names so usel@ess to introduce myself.

As far as "getting the ball rolling", the one that envisions this imagines a huge marble being diced, rolling onto the floor, like a "rolling ball", Not sure if I've got a problem :-) . ;-)

Hello everyone, I am Kevan and I translate from Italian to English—I started back in February, if I recall correctly.

I try to read all the new and recent posts (I learn a lot that way!) and it's good to see so many people introducing themselves on this thread.

However, I just wanted to point out that there is and has been a "Please Introduce Yourself" thread (Under "community") which sees several posts a month. It was started in Jan of 2014,  and I see that there were six new posts just in the month of November.  That would be one place for people to not only introduce themselves, but to read over the introductory posts of many other Gengo translators! They have such interesting stories and life paths!

Also, on the (original) topic of the thread—50 small jobs in one day? I'm thinking I need to take a test in another language pair!

Fifty jobs is about a 3 week to a one month supply of jobs in my language pair!  I occasionally get 2 or 3 small jobs in a day, but usually zero. When the e-mails come out "Gengo Collections Available," they generally indicate that there have been somewhere from 6 to 12 jobs in my language pair over the past week.

One time in the late summer we had a short-term client who posted something like 30 jobs over a period of about four days, and that was the record that I have seen in my time here. (Two nights in a row I stayed up all night translating article after article because I knew it was temporary and I wanted to get as much practice and experience as I could while it was there. Plus, the articles were fun to read and translate and the customer sent really nice messages in the feedback e-mails I got!)

    Enjoy your wordsmithing, everyone!

Well now I feel silly! I read this thread because it had recent activity, but after I posted my above message, I went back and realized that the initial post was from 2013 and a lot of what I was addressing was written in 2014!

    Oops!

Maybe the engineers could add a "delete comment" option to our posts!  ;-)
