Hello, all. I am a new Gengo translator (E>J). I am not a native English speaker, so pardon my English. ;P I wanted to draw both J>E / E>J translators' attention. That's why I am writing mostly in English. I also wanted to utilize more this forum for my better translation in the future, since there are not many posts...

In my translation job, I came across "Record your own voice fixes." It means judging from the context that the device will record your own voice fixes. How would you translate "fixes" in this sentence? In a dictionary, the noun "fix" can mean 位置, but the noun doesn't have a meaning of "fixing something" like 修正. However, the "fixes" here can mean 修正, or it has to mean something else?? I appreciate your kind comment. ここからは日本語で。名詞"fix"に「修正」の意味はないのでしょうか?この場合、「位置」の意味の方が正しいならば、または他の意味があるならば、この文はどのように訳されますか?

Hello Kumiushi. I've never see a situation where 位置 = fix. 位置 means "location" or "position", correct? Although, I'm not completely clear as to what a "voice fix" is, I think 修正 is probably more accurate.

FYI~. A revision had been requested on my work, but the customer didn't point out that part on "fixes" ! The customer wanted me to revise another part. hahaha. So, my translation for "record your own voice fixes" was 「自分の声で修正を録音」. I guess this translation was acceptable since the customer critically pointed out another part of my translation. As two mentioned above, the "fixes" here probably means 修正 or something close to this meaning.

Hello kumiushi, us new translators have to work hard!

Just to chime in regarding what andrew.heijoushin said, the only instance I would have thought "fix" could mean 位置 is in the expression "get a fix on something." Weblio offers its translation as 「(レーダーなどで)(船・飛行機など)の位置を決める」. But... that doesn't seem to apply to your case.

It sounds like the original English text had an unclear style — a "voice fix" is not something I would understand without the right context.

Thank you for your comment. Ariel! I LOVE Weblio, by the way. I have the Weblio app on my phone, then I wanted to download the same thing on my iPad. I can't find the app anymore... There is online Weblio, though. Anyway, I already got a perfect score review on this job. hehe. FYI~, the content was to explain the features on a kids' educational app on tablets. Thank you all for your insight. Viva, Gengo! I'm having a good experience at Gengo so far. :) I hope this continues...and this Gengo community grows. :) I'd also like to answer any questions/wonders/doubts on translation if I can.

    こんにちは! やっとGengoに登録したばかりの新参者です^^;。

    Web版の英辞郎を見ると、「調整、調節、修理」の意味が出ていました。なので、「自分自身の声を調整(調節)して録音しなさい」ということではないでしょうか? 自信はありませんが……。

    また、「program temporary fixes」で「プログラム一時修正」と出ていましたので、「修正」という訳も可能だと思いますが、「声を修正する」というのは日本語として少し不自然な感じがします。
